Among the Jews were some, who liked the ways of the Greek Seleucids. They stopped observing the religion of their fathers and they worshipped Zeus. They imitated the Greeks. They built gymnasiums, where they worked on improving their physical abilities. They were called, Hellenized Jews.

They were hated and despised by the more observant Jews.
